Self-Hypnosis and Past-Life Awareness

Hypnosis is one of the most common ways of exploring past lives. In recent times, however, it has fallen under suspicion. Some suggest that hypnosis is not a viable tool in that the hypnotist makes suggestions as to what the client should or should not experience. Although this may be true in some cases, a good past-life hypnotist will simply provide the skeletal framework to facilitate a past-life memory for the client. Again, the key is to remember that past-life information can be used productively, regardless of how it is obtained.

The AMA once defined hypnosis as an increase in suggestibility. It is a means of activating the subconscious mind for a particular function. The conscious mind is the seat of our organized brain activity and our willpower. It is what we use when active, awake, and aware, but it only controls about 10 percent of the body and brain. The subconscious mind, on the other hand, is the seat of our memory bank, our self-image, our perceptions of others and our intuition. It controls about 90 percent of the body and brain functions, including the autonomic nervous system. Through hypnosis, we can more effectively access these different functions.

Before 1950, the primary applications of hypnosis were healing and entertainment. Today there are many other therapeutic and nontherapeutic applications, including everything from weight control to stress release to self-confidence and even past-life discovery.

Hypnosis does not mean “put to sleep” or being unaware of your surroundings. You do not have to achieve a deep trance state to experience the positive effects of hypnosis. In fact, all that is necessary for the subconscious to be activated is a light trance state, which 95 percent of the adult population can achieve. You will often be completely aware of your surroundings while in the hypnotic trance state.

There are other misconceptions about hypnosis. You cannot be forced to do anything against your morals while in a trance state. You cannot be coerced into divulging your secrets, and it is not antireligious. It most definitely does not require a weak mind to be effective.

Recognizing Hypnotic Effects

Ninety-five percent of the adult population is capable of achieving a light to medium trance condition on the first attempt. This is all that is necessary in order to access the subconscious mind and achieve results through a past-life regression. The symptoms are some tangible clues that let the hypnotist know that the light trance condition has been achieved and that the past-life exploration can then proceed.

These statements are, of course, generalizations. Yes, there are subtle ways of using hypnosis to stimulate the subconscious through back doors that can circumvent moral dispositions and even help unlock secrets. It takes someone very skilled in hypnosis and very well trained in clinical therapy to open these doors effectively. The hypnotic techniques given in this text for past-life exploration are straightforward and will not involve such processes.
